Getting a 16 Episode Game Show to Rough Assembly in 30 minutes with FCP X and Lumberjack
This article is for all of the editors and producers out there doing it the hard way. I used to be like you.
Brian Cassin is a 20 year plus veteran of post-production. Four years ago he set out to prove how Final Cut Pro X couldn't "cut it" against Avid's Media Composer. He hasn't edited with Media Composer since.
When he got the opportunity to work with WGBH in 2016 on the game show High School Quiz Show (HSQS) he was given carte blanch on the post production workflow.
Lumberjack System was a very important part of the solution.

Just to say it again... That's 40:13 cut automatically via Lumberyard!!!! That's Bonkers
I couldn't have been happier with the results of this FCP X/Lumberjack workflow. It exceeded my expectations on how quickly an episode could be completed with quality results. I never felt the pressure that I usually feel in deadline driven broadcast programming... well maybe a little.
I don't think this time/money savings would have been possible without the experience I had in the Lumberjack Workflow.
If you ever use the "Display only the first multicam angle" option in Lumberyard, thank Brian. It was his feature request.
